Etched Tiles
Natural stone can be sensitive, the acidity of some spills or using the wrong household products can etch the stone eating into the surface. No amount of cleaning can remove this damage. Similar damage can occur with spills such as cola and wine. The area can look dull when compared with the surrounding tiles.
In these pictures you can see a shower wall that had been cleaned with a toilet cleaner and damage resulted. Using our specialist pads we cut back and removed the damage, once removed we began polishing the tiles to match the other tiles in the shower. In this instance the client loved the natural & light colours of the stone and didn’t want a high shine.

Cracked Tiles
We don’t just clean and restore Natural stone flooring in Berkshire & Wiltshire, we can repair your stone tiled floor too.
A cracked tile doesn’t have to mean a huge expense and all the disruption of a new floor. We can fill and repair a cracked tile and holes too. Our fillers come in a variety of colours and can even be polished to look amazing and really bring out the best in your floor.
These pictures show an example of a Travertine crack repair we have performed. The crack ran across the travertine tile. In this instance the stone tile had multiple natural colours, so we added different fillers to the crack to provide a variation and help to hide the crack rather than a uniform colour that might catch the eye more
Limestone tile with damage caused by inappropriate cleaning product
This Travertine tile had a crack running through it from a heavy object being dropped
We matched multiple different colours, similar to the natural stone variations to disguise the crack.
Cracks – Repairs and Fills.
Many of the floors we work on have cracks somewhere. Cracks can be most often be repaired as part of our restorations and in many instances be made very difficult to find let alone be the focus they so often are when you walk into a room.
There are multiple reasons a floor tile can crack. Often its a stress fracture from a corner cut or similar that spreads across a single tile and other times it can be movement beneath spreading across an entire tiled / stone floor. Hopefully this movement is historic from settlement etc. In this instance a repair will be as strong as the stone and can last forever. We use a 2 part filler with Akemi coloured pastes in many different colours to find multiple colours naturally occurring in the floor. This approach helps to blend the crack and stops your eye being naturally drawn to it.
Below is a repair we completed. The homeowner had previously attempted a repair with a single colour that was completely wrong for the stone so very much grabbed the attention. It was quite a large crack all the way across the stone floor in entrance to the conservatory. There was a difference in height from one side of the crack to the other in places so we tackled that too. We deep cleaned the floor to get the area clean, ground the area flat again so the crack had no ridges and then dried the floor. After carefully selecting a few suitable colour options the crack was filled with our very strong two part fillers. In this instance the floor was also polished to the customers desired finish. Once finished in the final picture the crack is difficult to find. A delighted customer.
